From Iraq to Ohio, former Marine brings health home
By Dawn Wolfe
During his four years in the Marines, including a tour in Iraq, Nick Bartol did not have to worry about getting enough exercise. However, when he came back home to Ohio, he said, “I became a little inactive and gained some weight. My mother had already lost over 50 pounds on the Herbalife diet and recommended that I give it a try. After a few days on the products my energy was though the roof and I was ready to get back into the best shape of my life. I went on to lose 55 pounds in four months and have kept it off for almost a year now.” After he and his mother both experienced such great results, they decided to go into business together to help others in that same area.
Nick has also gotten into personal training, and has “discovered just how much of a role proper nutrition has to play in achieving optimal wellness.” He added that all of the people in his Herbalife team originally became involved in the company because of their interest in weight loss, not because they wanted to start their own businesses.
In fact, starting a business was the furthest thing from Nick’s mind when he was in college. “I had no idea what I wanted to major in,” he remembered. “I was dabbling in a little bit of everything – law, business, kinesiology.” He decided to join the Marines in 2005 at the age of 19. It was not until he duplicated his mother’s weight-loss success with Herbalife’s products that he became interested in going into business through the company.
Today Nick is definitely sold on the Herbalife business as well as the products. Unlike many multi-level-marketing companies, Nick said that Herbalife does not expect distributors to satisfy monthly sales requirements or pay monthly dues. Instead, distributors purchase products at a 25 to 50 percent discount for personal consumption or to resell at full retail. Nick stated, “I want to help people achieve their goals, whatever they may be – weight loss, saving money on the products, or even a total career change.”
Nick is so excited about his product line that he has done something unusual for Herbalife distributors in the United States – he opened a storefront location. While his business is in a store, it is not a traditional retail operation. “This is a club, and our customers may buy daily, weekly and monthly memberships from us. Their membership fee includes wellness evaluations, nutritional guidance, a healthy meal replacement smoothie, herbal green tea and a shot of mango aloe.
Another service provided at Your Healthy Habit is the Weight Loss Challenge, a 10-week course designed to give participants the knowledge and tools they need to achieve their weight-loss goals. “This is much more than a ‘pay-weigh-and go’ slimming club or weight loss class,” Nick said. “Over the 10 weeks, we will educate you on key information that will help you lose weight the right way and keep it off for good.” The course costs $35.00 – but at the end of the 10 weeks, the people who have lost the most weight get a reward – a prize pool comprised of everyone’s entry fees.
